Small to medium carpentry jobs, done properly
Carpentry is at the heart of what we do. Most homes have a list of joinery jobs that never quite get done: a door that sticks, skirting that came away when the new floor went down, alcoves crying out for shelving. We take care of those jobs for homeowners across south-west Hertfordshire, north-west London and south Buckinghamshire.
We focus on small to medium domestic carpentry rather than large building projects. That means we can give your job proper attention, turn up when we say we will and leave your home clean and tidy at the end of each day.
What we can help with
- Hanging and adjusting internal doors
- Fitting new skirting boards and architrave
- Alcove shelving and cupboards
- Fitted wardrobes and under-stairs storage
- Loft hatches and loft ladders
- Boxing in pipes and meters
- Replacing door handles, locks and hinges
- Repairing stair treads, spindles and handrails
- Window boards and sills
- Garden gates and small fence repairs
How we work
We measure and listen first
We visit, look at the space and talk through how you want it to work before suggesting anything.
Matched to your home
Where possible we match existing profiles and finishes so new joinery looks like it has always been there.
Finished and ready to paint
Because we also decorate, we can fill, caulk and paint new woodwork so you do not need a second trade.
Carpentry services
If a door is dragging on the carpet or has never shut properly, our internal doors service covers hanging, easing and adjusting so it opens and closes as it should.
Short on space in a bedroom? Fitted wardrobes make use of awkward corners and sloped ceilings in a way flat-pack furniture rarely manages.
The gaps either side of a chimney breast are ideal for alcove shelving and cupboards, built to the exact size of the space rather than bought off the shelf.
The area beneath a staircase is often wasted. Under-stairs storage turns it into cupboards, shelving or a place to keep shoes and coats.
New flooring often leaves gaps at the wall, which is where skirting and architrave comes in, matched to the profile already in the house where possible.
Getting into the loft safely matters, and loft hatches and ladders covers fitting a proper hatch and a ladder that folds away neatly.
A handrail that wobbles or a tread that creaks is more than an annoyance. Staircase repairs deals with loose spindles, treads and handrails without replacing the whole staircase.
Helpful guides
For background reading before you call, our guide on a door sticking or not closing explains the common causes and what can be done about them.
If you are planning a bedroom project, the guide on fitted wardrobe cost sets out the things that affect price so you know what to expect before getting a quote.
What to expect on the day
A carpentry visit usually starts with measuring the doors, shelves or storage involved, so the right materials are cut before anything is fixed in place.
Dust sheets go down over carpets and flooring near the work area, and old fittings are removed carefully so the wall or floor around them is not marked.
Offcuts and packaging are cleared away before we leave, so a hallway or bedroom is left usable rather than full of sawdust and wrapping.
Working alongside other trades
New skirting or a boxed-in pipe is often fitted just before a room is decorated, so the woodwork can be filled and caulked ready for paint without bringing in a separate tradesperson.
Carpentry from our Chorleywood base
Micky's Property Services is based at 33 Swannells Walk in Chorleywood, and carpentry jobs are carried out Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, across the towns listed on our areas we cover page.
Homes in Rickmansworth and Northwood often have the sort of older doors, staircases and alcoves that this kind of carpentry suits, and the same is true further out towards Chalfont St Giles.
Call 07735 852901 to talk through a carpentry job, whether it is a single door or a full run of fitted storage.
Carpentry: common questions
+What size carpentry jobs do you take on?
We focus on small to medium domestic jobs, such as doors, skirting, shelving, storage and repairs. We do not take on large building projects or extensions.
+Can you paint the woodwork after fitting it?
Yes. As a multi-trade business we can fit and finish your carpentry, including filling, sanding and painting.
+Do you supply materials?
We can supply materials or work with items you have already bought. We will talk this through when we price your job.
+Can you match existing skirting and architrave profiles?
Where possible, yes. We will look at the existing profile and match it as closely as we can when fitting new skirting or architrave.
+Do you build fitted storage to the exact size of the room?
Yes, alcove shelving, cupboards and under-stairs storage are built to fit the space, rather than supplied as a standard size.
