Garden gates: identify movement and condition
For a riverside home with a sticking gate, show the complete opening and both supports. A latch that misses its keep might reflect hinge movement, a dropped gate or a damaged post. Tell us when the problem appeared and whether the timber is visibly deteriorating. Avoid forcing the gate or adjusting several parts before the enquiry, as that can obscure which element is causing the poor fit.
The fence and gate repairs page describes smaller repairs and small runs of fence installation. This town page does not imply extensive boundary construction or a remedy for ground movement. A gate’s location near water is context, not a diagnosis of its condition. Assessment should consider the actual timber, supports and access rather than assuming the entire boundary must be replaced.
Fence repairs need the affected section shown
A damaged panel, loose fitting and weakened support can require different approaches. Photograph the surrounding section as well as the damaged point, and say whether the fence is yours to authorise work on. Mention plants, narrow passages and objects stored along the boundary that restrict access. If replacement material is already available, supply its dimensions and type so suitability can be discussed before a visit.
Small maintenance should not be used to conceal a structurally unsound run or create a promise that old timber will last a particular period. If access is unsafe or the scale falls outside a modest repair, the limits need recognising. Do not climb a damaged fence to take photographs. A normal ground-level view and an explanation of what moves or no longer stays in place are sufficient for the first enquiry.
TV mounting in a cottage with thick walls
A thick cottage wall may be solid masonry, a lined surface or a construction that is not clear from its appearance. The television’s weight, bracket and fixing pattern need consideration alongside the wall. Share the model and bracket instructions, the intended height and any furniture below. A deep wall does not automatically provide a suitable fixing everywhere, and concealed services must be checked before drilling.
Our TV mounting page explains the fitting discussion. Cable management is another decision: identify whether a visible route is acceptable or whether you are asking about a concealed option. Historic finishes, fireplaces and existing decoration can restrict routes. Do not assume a socket change or extensive wall chasing is included with mounting the television; electrical additions and making good need their own scope.
Keep indoor and outdoor arrangements clear
The outdoor repair may require access through a side gate while the television fitting needs furniture moved indoors. Mention both arrangements and whether occupants or pets affect entry. If a wall is protected or the property is listed, clarify relevant permissions for alterations before work is agreed. A handyman enquiry is not a specialist conservation claim or approval to disturb old fabric simply because a mounting bracket is small.
The Marlow area page connects other local services, and property maintenance describes the general small-job focus. Use the quote form with separate photographs and priorities for each repair. Work is planned Monday to Friday, with no emergency attendance or large building projects. Discuss suitability before purchasing replacements or expecting a combined visit to cover every boundary and interior alteration.
