TV wall mounting

A wall-mounted television frees up floor space and looks far neater than a stand. We mount TVs as part of our [property maintenance](/services/property-maintenance) work.

Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm

Getting the bracket right

The bracket has to suit both the television and the wall. Solid brick or block walls take heavy fixings straight in; stud walls need the fixings into the timber studs, not the plasterboard, or the TV will not stay up for long. We check the wall construction first and use the right fixings for it.

The bracket type matters too: a flat bracket suits a clean, close fit, while a tilting or full-motion arm lets you angle the screen towards different seats.

Height and position

The most common mistake is mounting a television too high. The centre of the screen should sit roughly at eye level from where you actually watch it, which usually means lower than people first expect. We agree the position with you before any holes are drilled, and the TV is levelled carefully once it is up.

The viewing distance matters as well. A very large screen mounted close to the seating is tiring to watch, while a modest screen on the far wall of a long room leaves everyone squinting. If you are unsure about size for the room, we are happy to give an honest view before you buy.

  • Customer-supplied or supplied brackets
  • Soundbars mounted beneath the screen

Hiding the cables

A mounted TV with cables dangling down the wall defeats the point. Cables can be trunked neatly, chased into a solid wall and made good, or hidden inside a stud wall where the construction allows. If you need an extra socket or aerial point behind the television, our socket installation service can add one first.

It is worth gathering every cable that will ever run to the screen before the wall is closed up: aerial, HDMI leads from the boxes, soundbar and any games consoles, so nothing has to be added awkwardly later.

TVs as part of a media wall

If you are planning something more built-in, with recesses for the screen, soundbar and boxes, that is a carpentry project covered on our media walls page, and the mounting is planned as part of the build.

What affects TV mounting cost

The size and weight of the television, the wall type, the bracket chosen and how the cables are to be hidden all shape the price. Request a free quote or call 07735 852901.

Mounting a television is quick work, so it combines well with other jobs on the list, from shelves and curtain poles to the odd-jobs list that never quite gets done. Mention everything when you book and the visit can be planned around it.

Common questions

+Can a TV be mounted on a plasterboard wall?

Yes, as long as the fixings go into the timber studs behind the plasterboard rather than the board itself. We locate the studs and use the right fixings for the wall.

+Do I need to buy the bracket myself?

You can, and we will fit a suitable customer-supplied bracket, or we can supply one matched to your television and wall. We confirm suitability before fitting either way.

+Can the cables be hidden completely?

In many cases, yes. Cables can be chased into a solid wall and made good, or run inside a stud wall. Where neither is practical, neat trunking is the tidy fallback.

+Can you mount a soundbar as well?

Yes, soundbars can be mounted on the wall directly beneath the television so the two sit together cleanly.
