Replacing existing light fittings
Swapping a tired pendant for a new fitting is the simplest job and makes an immediate difference. The old fitting comes down, the connections are checked and the new light goes up securely, whether it is a simple pendant, a flush ceiling light or a heavier fitting that needs proper support.
Heavier fittings such as chandeliers and large multi-arm lights need a fixing into the joist or a proper ceiling support rather than the plasterboard, which we check before anything goes up.
Switches and dimmers can be replaced at the same time, and a dimmer on a living room or bedroom light is a small change that makes the room far more flexible.
Downlights and spotlights
Recessed downlights give kitchens, bathrooms and hallways a clean, modern look with even light and no fittings hanging into the room. Installing them means cutting the ceiling, running cable to each position and fitting fire-rated units where the ceiling requires them.
The layout matters as much as the fitting: spacing, distance from walls and beam angle all affect whether the room feels evenly lit or full of shadows, and we plan the positions with you before any holes are cut.
If you are converting an existing room to downlights, the old pendant positions and any redundant wiring are dealt with at the same time, and the ceiling is left ready for filling and painting rather than peppered with abandoned holes.
- Ceiling lights and pendants fitted
- Recessed downlights and spotlights installed
- Dimmers and switches replaced
- Outdoor and security lighting
Making good after the work
New lighting sometimes leaves a larger hole or a different footprint than the old fitting. Because the business also decorates, the ceiling can be filled, sanded and painted around the new lights in the same project, so there is no ring of old paint left on show and no second tradesperson to chase.
What affects light fitting cost
A straight swap of one fitting is quick; a run of downlights means cutting, cabling and making good, so the number of fittings, access above the ceiling and the finish required all shape the price. A home visit gives you a firm quote.
Booking lighting work
All work is carried out by an NICEIC registered electrician. Request a free quote or call 07735 852901. See also socket installation and extractor fans.
Lighting work often pairs naturally with redecorating, since new fittings and fresh paint transform a room together. If you are planning both, mention it when you book so the electrics happen first and the decorating follows without anything being spoilt.
